4.26.09 Early morning beach walk

Sunday morning, Mimi and I jumped into the van and headed to Folly Beach. As locals, we wanted to start early to miss the 12 noon beach goers and bumper to bumper traffic on Folly Road. We arrived around 10 am and walked the early beautiful intimate beach.

We saw some strange looking worm-like creatures that I had never ever seen before. We kept walking and came upon a high tide horseshoe crab mating session within their personalized crab made circular pool. Those worm-like creatures were the hscrab's offspring. The large female supports the much smaller male on her back, while vibrating and creating bubbles from her underside, thus releasing the offspring. After the crab-jacuzzi they leave the pool and amble back to the sea, leaving their offspring behind.

We saw many hscrab couples participating, it was on a new moon and at high tide. . . . what an adventure . . . we also found a inch long shark's tooth! It was a great way to start the day and be home by 12 noon!
